Boa constrictor occidentalis

Argentine boas are classified under this unique Boa constrictor subspecies.  A fairly large boa, Argentines offer a very different appearance than other subspecies.  This is the only subspecies currently listed as endangered by CITES (Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species) and is listed under Appendix I.  This prohibits export from native countries and requires special permits for import and export of captive bred animals between countries.

Taxonomic data: Philippi 1873; scale count 65-87 dorsal rows; 242-251 ventral scales; 45 subcaudals; 29-30 interconnected dorsal blotches
